What is Eventing?
Three Day Eventing is an equestrian triathlon sport that has roots in military calvary training. Horse and rider pairs compete one phase each day of the competition. The three phases are dressage, cross country, and show jumping. Dressage is a test on the flat in which pairs prove their control and coordination by performing a test for a judge. Cross Country and Show Jumping are the two timed jumping phases. Cross Country requires pairs to complete a course of natural obstacles in an open setting, while Show Jumping is a course of hurdles in an arena. Eventing is known to be the ultimate test of horse and rider. It requires speed, strength, stamina, bravery, accuracy, and precision of the highest caliber. It is a favorite Summer Olympic sport, and is competed around the world. In the United States, the governing body of competitions is the United States Eventing Association (USEA).
