Q: What are the requirements to be on the team?
A: CP Eventing is welcome to anyone and everyone. To be on the team, there are basic requirements in our bylaws, such as not being on academic probation, maintaining good conduct, etc. They are easy requirements to meet. Pretty much anyone who wants to join can! There are two levels of membership- competing members and noncompeting. The choice is up to you!

Q: Do I need to bring my own horse?
A: Yes. To be a competing member of the team you need to provide your own mount. We understand that it is not always possible to bring a horse to college. If this is the case we encourage you to join as a non-competing member, where you can still come to social events. With eventing, to ride and compete at three day events, you do need your own horse. Currently, the university does not provide us with any team horses. (Probably because of how specialized and difficult eventing is).

Q: Are there try outs?
A: No! We welcome everyone at all levels and skills. The more the merrier!

Q: Where do members ride and train?
A: Check out the prospective members tab. We have the barns in the area on that page. Members are free to board at whatever facility they choose. Many factors go into choosing a barn, from cost to distance to availability, and thus we do not control which facility might be best for you. You will find a few of our members at each barn location in SLO county, and varying trainers per location.

Q: How active is the team?
A: You can be as involved as much or as little as you want with us. We try to hold administrative meetings once or twice a month. Then to supplement, we can have as many social events as shown interest for. Socials are both horse related and not. Some examples of horse socials are beach rides, trial rides, cross country schooling, clinics, etc. Non-horse socials would be activities such as movie nights, hiking, lunch dates, bonfires, touring horse facilities, etc. We plan as many events as our members request to have. USEA Area VI events occur roughly once or twice a month. Competing in the events, and/or coming to support and watch is ultimately the number one goal and purpose of the team.

Q: What if I know I can't bring a horse but I still really want to ride?
A: CP Eventing welcomes you to join as a non-competing member. If you want riding time, check out Cal Poly Equestrian Team or Cal Poly Dressage Team. Those clubs have a small number of donated horses they share for members to ride and care for.

Q: What kind of dues are there for the club?
A: CP Eventing fees are much lower than the other equestrian teams on campus, because of the fact that you provide your own horse. We currently do not have a fixed rate, because of the variability in team size and costs per year (given that we are such a new club) but you can expect dues of no more than $50 for an entire year (~$15 a quarter).
